Fantastic today, again. Should have connected much better for that shot but stopped several goal bound efforts. Obviously, he'll make the odd mistake but having him on the team sheet is no worry at all.

Always said he would have blocked Gerrard shot in the cup final if he'd been brought on instead of teddy
If only

Anyone that's played football at any sort of standard knows what it's like to have a player like Collins in the side. The effort and commitment drag you along and while he's not the greatest footballing centre half in the world, he defends with a level of intensity which is infectious and lifts others.

He will have the odd rick, and will have the odd stinker against pacey forwards being played in diagonally behind him, but for the most part he's great at what he does.

Colossal today but I also felt Ogbonna was the better defender today - marked Gomis out of the game.

If blocking shots isn't a good skill of defending I don't know what is - saved several certain goals. Was it handball? Debatable - if he doesn't block it's a goal anyway.

Bilic made it pretty clear the other day that he rates Ginge and anyone who thinks we should sell him is a "big time" bloody tampon, or words to that effect.

I make Bilic right.

Peroni "defends with little or no skill" what do you expect him to do nutmegs, stepovers and keepy ups ? He's a centre half ffs.

Re: Yes you Welsh man mountain
Always tries his best. Defends heroically with little or no skill. We will not progress with players like Collins. He'll save us the odd point here and there though and is a true warrior, who never shirks his responsibility.

If Collins had been here when grant was manager we would not of gone down ,massive mistake selling him.upson,de costa and gabbidon were dire.

Re: Yes you Welsh man mountain
I think its a bit much to say we play shit and negative because collins is in the side, he is one centre half, away from home! Kept a clean sheet again,,,doing his job.

Yes his distribution is pretty poor and isn't too fast, you can carry that if the players in front are better in those areas, and his contribution today was massive again.

Both central defenders were great again. It is the attacking 3rd we have problems in right now.

Another one of your insightful contributions. The internet was made for your type :).

I was gutted when he was sold at virtually the last minute of the transfer window under Zola, I'm convinced that our subsequent struggles were due to him leaving. However, I was overjoyed when he came back and we are reaping the benefits now. I know he is 't everyone's cup of tea but I've never seen a West Ham centre back put in so many blocks as he does, not even Alvin.

Let's hope he doesn't go to Sunderland next month. He might just save that fat bastard from relegation.

Your points are usually so far off the mark that there is no logical answer to such rank stupidity. I dont often bother reading them now. I put you in the same bracket as Texas Iron and other such amoebas.

When people accuse me of fishing it's because they have no reasonable counter-argument to the point I'm making. Which usually means I'm right.

Centre backs both great today. Dont agree that our full backs deserve much credit, Swansea were fucking all over us down the flanks.

Good effort, except that there IS a trend towards keepers pushing up, the sweeper keeper etc. For exactly the same reasons - if you can play further up the pitch you can be more compact as a team, put more pressure on the opposition and keep the ball further from your own goal. It's really the same principle that I'm criticising Collins for - the deeper you sit, the more you invite pressure, the more stretched the team is, the less likely you are to control the game. Which leads indirectly to our horrendous possession and passing stats today, for example.

Re: Yes you Welsh man mountain
I hate the way goalkeepers always stay in their line, hurling themselves in the way of opposition shots. If they would only push up outside their box, we could more effectively 'keep goal' by attacking and keeping opposing teams occupied defending our positive play. Players like Adrian just bring our game down. We end up commending him for his 'saved' that his terrible tactics make necessary.
